Galette des rois

Dear Parents,

This year for Epiphany, we will be having a BFG activity where the students get to partake in the experience of' 'Galette des rois'.

A Galette des rois is a puffed pastry cake often filled with frangipane, but we will substitute it for chocolate for a nut-free version. A charm, called 'fève' is then hidden inside. Whoever finds the charm in their piece of galette is crowned king or queen for the night. This is a tradition often celebrated in France, Quebec and other francophone regions around the world.

As Epiphany occurs on the first day back from Christmas break, we ask that parents volunteer to help us make enough of this delicious puffed pastry for everyone to enjoy. If you would like to volunteer, please click on the following link to sign up.

Thank you!!

Christmas Open House

Dear Parents,

On Tuesday December 17th, the school will be open from 6:00-7:30 pm for our Christmas Open House. Parents/ families are encouraged to walk around and see all of the classes. This will give you an idea of some of the exciting things happening in different grades. There will be lots to see and do around the school!

Our class has a scheduled music demonstration from 7:20- 7:25 pm in the music room. This will allow you to see a snapshot of what happens in a typical music class.  Each class is scheduled for 5 minutes, so please make sure you are waiting outside the music room BEFORE 7:20 pm. The grade 4's will line up along the right side of the wall leading up to the music room.

Additionally, our class will be showing off all of Advent Wreath art projects as well as Christmas stories. Please drop by when it's convenient for you!

If you have any questions or are not planning on attending, please let me know.

MSD

Dear parents,

Over the past several of weeks in science, students have been learning about the waste in our world. A large part of this unit is about the effects of garbage on our environment. For this reason, we are starting a wasteless lunch program in both grade 4 classes called MSD (mercredi sans déchets/ Wednesdays without Waste). It will begin on October 30th. We are encouraging the children to bring lunches that include very little to no waste (i.e., tupperware containers, reusable drink bottles, compostable items etc.).

Throughout the next few weeks, students will be tracking all of the waste that they produce and at the end we will summarize the results. Our goal is to make students aware of just how much garbage can accumulate in a short period of time. If you could help ensure your child brings a wasteless lunch on Wednesdays, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your support!
