Grade 4: Oct. 31- Nov. 4

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: A reminder that the French Reading Program is due on MONDAY. 
Students will finish their writing assignment where they describe what a school is. This is due on Friday. In addition, students will continue to complete some comprehension activities. 
Book reports are due on Monday.

Math: We will start our unit on addition and estimating sums. Students should be practicing their basic addition facts.

English: Students will complete their punctuation unit. There will be an evaluation on Wednesday. Then we will start to learn about sentence structure. Book reports are due on Monday.

Science: We will continue part 2 of Waste in Our World.

Social Studies: Students will finish presenting their projects on Monday. Then we will start to look at the origins of Alberta.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about unit 1: Called to be One. They will also reflect on the difference between the meaning of “the” church and “a” church. They will show their understanding with a drawing and decorate/ build a church-shaped donation box out of cardboard.

Suggest family activity in preparation for Remembrance Day on November 11th: Walk among the crosses in the Field of Crosses (200 Memorial Drive NW). Info at https://www.fieldofcrosses.com/

Send the teacher a photo to share with the class.

REMINDER: There is no school on November 1st. When students return on November 2nd, we will be completing a series of activities for Student Wellness Day.

 

 

Grade 3: Oct. 31- Nov. 4

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will continue their French reading program at home. The final writing assignment on developing ideas is due on Monday. Additionally, book reports are due on the same day. Then we will start to learn about structure and organization in writing.

Math: Students will start to learn about number patterns.

English: We will finish our unit on punctuation. There will be an evaluation on Wednesday. Then we will start to learn about sentence structure. Book reports are due on Monday.

Science: We will continue with our unit on rocks and minerals.

Social Studies: Students will continue to study India.

Religion: Students will continue with unit 1: Our Catholic Community. They will also reflect on the difference between the meaning of “the” church and “a” church. They will show their understanding with a drawing and decorate/ build a church-shaped donation box out of cardboard.

Grade 4: Oct. 24- 28

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: A reminder that the French Reading Program is due on MONDAY. Students should be reading out loud for 20 minutes a day in Frenchfour times a week for a total of 80 minutes.
Students will begin an informative writing assignment where they describe what a school is. They will have two weeks for this. In addition, students will complete some comprehension activities.

Math: We will finish our unit on number patterns. There will be an evaluation on Thursday.

English: Students will continue to learn about how to properly use punctuation in writing.

Science: Students will present their decomposer posters. Then we will begin part 2 of Waste in Our World.

Social Studies: Students will finish their research project about a wild animal of Alberta. This will be due on Thursday.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about unit 1: Called to be One. They will also begin a service project: Message of gratitude for the veterans at the Food Bank. There will be an evaluation on Friday on the names of the 12 disciples. Students are reminded to sing the Wee Sing choir sing “There Were 12 Disciples” on Youtube. They should also fill in the blanks on the photocopies sent home last week.

Reminder: Thursday’s theme for Spirit Day is one colour, head-to-toe.

French: Students will continue their French reading program at home. They should be on log 2 by now. They will also continue learning about how to improve their ideas in writing. There will be a final writing assignment given for students to show their ideas in writing.

Math: We will finish our unit on money. There will be an evaluation on Thursday.

English: Students will continue to learn how to properly use punctuation in writing.

Science: We will continue with our unit on rocks and minerals.

Social Studies: Students will continue to study India.

Religion: Students will continue with unit 1: Our Catholic Community. They will also begin a service project: Message of gratitude for the veterans at the Food Bank. Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: A reminder that the French Reading Program is due on MONDAY. Students should be reading out loud for 20 minutes a day in Frenchfour times a week for a total of 80 minutes.
Students will learn about adjectives. There will be an evaluation on Friday. This will cover using the correct form of adjective according to the noun (masculine, feminine, singular, plural nouns).

Math: We will continue to learn about number patterns.

English: Students will continue to study the rules of capitalization. They will also learn about how to properly use punctuation in writing. There will be a short quiz on capitalization on Wednesday.

Science: Students will continue to research one decomposer and create a “Wanted” poster. This will be due on Monday, October 24th.

Social Studies: There will be an evaluation on Tuesday. Students have already received the study guide. They will also continue their research project about a wild animal of Alberta. This will be due sometime during the week of the 24th.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about unit 1: Called to be One. They will use 4 steps to write a personal prayer to God. The celebration of the Feast of St. Luke will be on Tuesday. Additionally, students will need to memorize and write the names of the 12 disciples. There will be an evaluation on Friday, October 28th. There is a song on YouTube called “We Sing- There Were 12 Disciples” that help students to memorize the names.

Reminder: Picture Day is on Tuesday, October 18th.

Math: We will continue to study monetary value (Canadian currency).

English: Students will continue to study the rules of capitalization. They will also learn about how to properly use punctuation in writing. There will be a short quiz on capitalization on Wednesday.

Science: We will continue with our unit on rocks and minerals.

Social Studies: Students will continue to study India.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about unit 1: Our Catholic Community. They will use 4 steps to write a personal prayer to God. The celebration of the Feast of St. Luke will be on Tuesday. Additionally, students will need to memorize and write the names of the 12 disciples. There will be an evaluation on Friday, October 28th. There is a song on YouTube called “We Sing- There Were 12 Disciples” that help students to memorize the names.

Grade 4: Oct. 11- 14

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: A reminder that the French Reading Program is due on TUESDAY. Students should be reading out loud for 20 minutes a day in Frenchfour times a week for a total of 80 minutes.
Students will continue to learn about common nouns. There will be an evaluation on Friday. This will cover alphabetizing words, looking up the definition and gender (masculine or feminine) of words in the dictionary, and writing words in their plural form.

Math: We will continue with number sense. There will be an evaluation on Wednesday on comparing and organizing numbers into diagrams. Then we will start to learn about number patterns.

English: Students will complete their novel study choice board activities. They are due on Friday. In addition, we will study the rules of capitalization.

Science: Students will research one decomposer and create a “Wanted” poster.

Social Studies: Students will continue learning about the geography of Alberta. There will be an evaluation on October 18th. Students have already received the study guide. They will also begin a research project about a wild animal of Alberta.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about unit 1: Called to be One. They will also discuss why we pray, and they will complete St. Luke's Feast Day activities in preparation for the liturgy on October 18th.

 

Grade 3: Oct. 11- 14

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will continue their French reading program at home. They will also learn about one of the 6 traits of writing: ideas.

Math: We will be studying monetary value (Canadian currency).

English: Students will finish their novel study choice board activities. They are due on Friday. In addition, we will be studying the rules of capitalization.

Science: We will continue with our unit on rocks and minerals.

Social Studies: Students will finish making their maps of the classroom. Then we will begin to study our first country: India.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about unit 1: Our Catholic Community. They will also discuss why we pray, and they will complete St. Luke's Feast Day activities in preparation for the liturgy on October 18th.

Food Drive

From October 3rd to October 7th, we will be collecting non-perishable food items for the St. Luke Church Feed the Hungry program. Here is the list of non-perishable items they would like to receive from the Thanksgiving food drives.   Any items received from the schools will be most welcome since their pantry stocks are a bit low at the moment.

English: We will continue our novel study on Flying Solo. Additionally, students will be reading other short texts and responding to them in their exercise books.

Science: We will continue our unit on Waste in our World. There will be an evaluation on Wednesday.

Social Studies: Students will continue learning about the geography of Alberta.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about unit 1: Called to be One. They will also practice reflections, songs, and prayers for Thanksgiving.

Grade 3: Oct. 3- 7

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will continue their French reading program at home. They will also complete some activities for Thanksgiving. In addition, students will continue learning about alphabetizing, vocabulary, and other word work.

Math: We will continue with number sense. Students are learning how to represent numbers in different ways, compare numbers, and place numbers on a number line. They should be practicing saying their numbers in French up to 100,000. There will be an evaluation on Thursday.

English: We will continue a novel study on Flying Solo. In addition, students will work on activities that accompany the novel study.

Science: We will continue exploring the scientific method, including scientific variables. Then we will move on to study rocks and minerals.

Social Studies: Students will start a mapping project where they draw a map of the classroom.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about unit 1: Our Catholic Community. They will also practice reflections, songs, and prayers for Thanksgiving.
