Grade 4: Oct. 10- 13

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: A reminder that the reading program is due for Tuesday.
Students will continue to learn about common nouns this week. There will be an evaluation on Friday where students will have to put nouns into alphabetical order, search up definitions in the dictionary, identify common nouns in a sentence, and write the plural form of nouns.

Math: We will continue to learn about money.

English: Students will finish writing their own version of the next chapter of Secret Signs. Then they will start learning about punctuation.

Science: We will continue our unit on Waste in our World. There will be an evaluation on Thursday. Students received and reviewed a study guide last week.

Social Studies: Students will continue their research project about a wild animal of Alberta.

Religion: Students will explore the link between spiritual health and physical/ emotional health.

NOTE: This will be my last blog post as I begin my maternity leave. It has been a pleasure getting to know the students in my class!

Grade 3: Oct. 10- 13

French: Students should have already completed log 1 of FRENCH reading, and on to log 2.
Students will continue with the Daily 5 literacy centres. They will also continue to practice putting words into alphabetical order, as well as searching words up in the dictionary.

Math: We will start a new unit on money.

English:  Students will finish writing their own version of the next chapter of Secret Signs. Then they will start learning about punctuation.

Science: We will continue learning about the scientific method. Students will work on an assignment where they fill out the steps of the scientific process of an imaginary science experiment.

Social Studies: Students will start a new unit where they learn about India.

Religion: Students will explore the link between spiritual health and physical/ emotional health.

Grade 4: Oct. 2- 5

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: A reminder that the reading program is due for Monday. Book reports (one French, one English) are also due on Monday.
Students will learn about common nouns this week.

Math: We will start to learn about money.

English: We will finish our novel study on Secret Signs. Students will be asked to share their visual journals and show me how they used sketchnoting techniques to demonstrate their learning.

Science: We will continue our unit on Waste in our World.

Social Studies: Students will start a research project about a wild animal of Alberta.

Religion: Students will continue to learn how worshipping together makes us one.

Grade 3: Oct. 2- 5

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: The reading log is due on Monday. Book reports (one French, one English) are also to be handed in.
Students will continue with the Daily 5 literacy centres. They will also learn about putting words into alphabetical order.

Math: We will continue to learn about number sense. Students are learning how to represent numbers in different ways, as well as place value, comparing numbers, putting them in order from either biggest to smallest, or the opposite, and placing numbers on a number line. They should be practicing saying and writing their numbers in French up to 100, 000. There will be a unit test on Wednesday.

English:  We will finish our novel study on Secret Signs. Students will be asked to share their visual journals and show me how they used sketchnoting techniques to demonstrate their learning.

Science: We will continue learning about the scientific method. Students will have an assignment where they fill out the steps of the scientific process of an imaginary science experiment.

Social Studies: Students will continue to work on a mapping project. The good copy is due on Thursday.

Religion: Students will continue to learn why and how we pray.

Grade 4: Sep. 25- 29

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: A reminder that the reading program is due for Monday.
Students will continue working on cursive writing and writing in their personal journals. They will also learn the difference between using the verbs AVOIR and ÊTRE in the present tense. There will be a pretest (not for marks) on Monday, followed by an evaluation on Friday.

Math: We will continue to learn about number sense. Students are learning how to represent numbers in different ways: place value charts, base 10 blocks, deconstructed form, written form etc. They should practice saying their numbers in French up to 1,000,000 and rounding numbers up or down based on place value. There will be an evaluation on Wednesday.

English: Students will have a couple of lessons leading up to National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We will also continue our novel study on Secret Signs.

Science: We will continue our unit on Waste in our World.

Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about the geography of Alberta. There will be an evaluation on Thursday. A study guide will be sent home on Monday.

Religion: Students will learn how worshipping together makes us one.

REMINDER: The Terry Fox run will be on Tuesday morning at 9:15 am. Students are encouraged to donate a toonie for Terry. Permission forms are due BEFORE the run.

Grade 3: Sep. 25- 29

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: The reading log is due at the end of the month.
Students will continue to work on cursive writing, as well as learning about vowels, consonants, syllables, unscrambling sentences and describing an image in French. There will be an evaluation on Friday on these concepts.
 Students will also start the Daily 5 literacy centres.

Math: We will continue to learn about number sense. Students are learning how to represent numbers in different ways: place value charts, base 10 blocks, deconstructed form, written form etc. They should be practicing saying their numbers in French up to 100, 000.

English: Students will have a couple of lessons leading up to National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We will also continue our novel study on Secret Signs.

Science: We will continue learning about the scientific method, including the three types of variables.

Social Studies: Students will work on a mapping project.

Religion: Students will learn why and how we pray.

REMINDER: The Terry Fox run will be on Tuesday morning at 9:15 am. Students are encouraged to donate a toonie for Terry. Since the grade 3’s will be running around the block with the grade 4’s, permission forms are due BEFORE the run.

Students will continue working on cursive writing and writing in their personal journals. They will also learn about how to conjugate the verb ÊTRE in the present tense. There will be an evaluation on Thursday.

Math: We will continue to learn about number sense. Students are learning how to represent numbers in different ways: place value charts, base 10 blocks, deconstructed form, written form etc. They should be practicing saying their numbers in French up to 100,000.

English: Students will finish their writing assignment called the “I Can” hand. This is due on Thursday. We will also continue our novel study on Secret Signs.

Science: We will continue our unit on Waste in our World.

Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about the geography of Alberta.

Religion: M. Zacharie will continue with introductory lessons. We will be walking to the church for our opening mass on September 20th.

REMINDER: Parent-teacher conferences are this Thursday from 4:30- 7:30 pm, and on Friday from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Please check your email from the school to access the link for Conference Manager.

French: Letters for the French at-home reading program were sent last week. Each reading log is due at the end of the month.
Students will continue to work on cursive writing, as well as learning about vowels, consonants, and syllables.
Additionally, we will start some of our Daily 5 literacy centres this week.

Math: We will continue to learn about number sense. Students are learning how to represent numbers in different ways: place value charts, base 10 blocks, deconstructed form, written form etc. They should be practicing saying their numbers in French up to 10,000 for now.

English: Students will finish writing a short letter (10 sentences) explaining what kind of teacher they need to be successful this year. This is due on Thursday. We will also continue our novel study on Secret Signs.

Science: We will continue learning about the scientific method.

Social Studies: Students will continue with some introductory activities to develop mapping skills.

Religion: M. Zacharie will continue with introductory lessons. We will be walking to the church for our opening mass on September 20th.

Grade 4: Sep. 11- 15

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

 

French: Students will begin their French reading program at home. Letters will be sent on Monday explaining in further detail. 
In addition, students are working on cursive writing and writing in their personal journals. They will also learn about how to conjugate the verb AVOIR in the present tense. There will be an evaluation on Friday.

Math: We will learn about number sense. Students will learn how to represent numbers in different ways: place value charts, base 10 blocks, deconstructed form, written form etc. They should be practicing saying their numbers in French up to 1,000.

English: Students will be working on a writing assignment called the “I Can” hand. They are to come up with one page of ideas describing all the things they can do. We will also start our novel study on Secret Signs.

Science: We will start our unit on Waste in our World.

Social Studies: Students will start to learn about the geography of Alberta.

Religion: M. Zacharie will begin some introductory lessons this week. He will be having students write a prayer about gratitude.

Grade 3: Sep. 11- 15

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will begin their French reading program at home. Letters will be sent on Monday explaining in further detail.
In addition, students will work on cursive writing, as well as writing in their personal journals and learn about vowels and consonants.

Math: We will start to learn about number sense. Students will learn how to represent numbers in different ways: place value charts, base 10 blocks, deconstructed form, written form etc. They should be practicing saying their numbers in French up to 1,000 for now.

Science: We will be discussing what a scientist is, discovering different types of scientists that exist, and learning about the scientific method.

Social Studies: Students are getting an introduction to mapping skills and will learn the vocabulary that accompanies maps. They are also learning where on a map to locate the four communities that we will study this year: India, Peru, Ukraine and Tunisia.

Religion: M. Zacharie will begin some introductory lessons this week. He will be having students write a prayer about gratitude.

Students will do some large group reading.

Math: Students will complete the geometry unit.

English: We will continue with large group reading.

Science: We will continue our unit on plant growth and change.

Social Studies: Students will finish presenting their information on Alberta’s history.

Religion: Students will complete unit 5: Building the Kingdom of God. There will be a year-end mass on Monday at 10:00 am at St. Luke’s church.

Grade 3: June 19- 23

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students should submit log 10 of their French at-home reading. They will complete some group reading activities and finish learning about verb conjugation.

Math: We will finish with our geometry unit.

English: We will continue some readers' theater activities.

Science: Students will complete their work on a design project.

Social Studies: Students will finish researching a country of their choice.

Religion: Students will finish unit 5: The Promise of the Holy Spirit. There will be a year-end mass on Monday at 10:00 am at St. Luke’s church.

Religion: Students will continue unit 5: Building the Kingdom of God. They will also continue to learn about fathers and men in the Bible. Additionally, students will continue covering the following topics from the Fully Alive resource: feelings, relationships, welcoming new babies, and commitments.

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

Math: We will continue with geometry.

English: We will be doing some readers theatre activities.

Science: Students will work on a design project.

Social Studies: Students will continue to research a country of their choice.

Religion: Students will continue unit 5: The Promise of the Holy Spirit. They will also continue to learn about fathers and men in the Bible. Additionally, students will continue covering the following topics from the Fully Alive resource: feelings, relationships, welcoming new babies, and commitments.

Students will continue to learn about French comics. We will also finish our guided reading groups.

Math: We will finish our unit on data analysis and start the geometry unit.

English: Students need to complete all the Belle of Batoche activities for Tuesday. Then we will do some large group reading, including some plays.

Science: We will continue our unit on plant growth and change.

Social Studies: The pamphlet project on Alberta’s history is due Monday. We will take time allowing students to teach each other about what information they learned throughout this project.

Religion: Students will continue unit 5: Building the Kingdom of God. They will also learn about fathers and men in the Bible. Additionally, students will be covering the following topics from the Fully Alive resource: feelings, relationships, welcoming new babies, and commitments.

REMINDER: book reports are due on Monday.
