Grade 4: Sep. 26- 29

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: A reminder that the French Reading Program is due on MONDAY. Students should be reading out loud for 20 minutes a day in Frenchfour times a week for a total of 80 minutes.
Students are continuing to work on cursive writing and will also complete some activities for Terry Fox. In addition, students will learn about the difference between using the verbs AVOIR and ÊTRE in the present tense. There will be a pre-test (not for marks) on Monday and an evaluation on Thursday.

Math: We will continue with number sense. Students are learning how to represent numbers in different ways: place value charts, base 10 blocks, deconstructed form, written form etc. They should be practicing saying their numbers in French up to 10,000. There will be a short evaluation on Wednesday.

English: We will continue our novel study on Flying Solo. Additionally, students will be reading other short texts and responding to them in their exercise books.

Science: We will continue our unit on Waste in our World.

Social Studies: Students will continue learning about the geography of Alberta. Additionally, we will complete activities for Truth and Reconciliation.

Religion: Students will look at unit 1 in the Growing in Faith textbook: Called to be One. In addition, they will reflect on truth, reconciliation, and humility.

REMINDERS: The Terry Fox Run is on Wednesday. Please sign the permission form that Mme Donnelly is sending home. In addition, there is no school on Friday.

Grade 3: Sep. 26- 29

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will continue their French reading program at home. They will also complete some activities for Terry Fox. In addition, students will continue learning about alphabetizing, syllables, and other word work. There will be an evaluation on Thursday based on these concepts.

Math: We will continue with number sense. Students are learning how to represent numbers in different ways: place value charts, base 10 blocks, deconstructed form, written form etc. They should be practicing saying their numbers in French up to 1,000.

English: We will continue a novel study on Flying Solo. In addition, students will continue to practice spelling words, alphabetizing and other word work.

Science: We will continue exploring the scientific method.

Social Studies: Students will work on their mapping skills. They will also start a mapping project where they draw a map of the classroom. Additionally, we will complete activities for Truth and Reconciliation.

Religion: Students will look at unit 1 in the Growing in Faith textbook: Our Catholic Community. In addition, they will reflect on truth, reconciliation, and humility.

In addition, students are continuing to work on cursive writing and writing in their personal journals. They will also learn about how to conjugate the verb ÊTRE in the present tense. There will be an evaluation on Thursday.

Math: We will continue with number sense. Students are learning how to represent numbers in different ways: place value charts, base 10 blocks, deconstructed form, written form etc. They should be practicing saying their numbers in French up to 1,000.

English: We will continue our novel study on Flying Solo. Additionally, students will be reading other short texts and responding to them in their exercise books.

Science: We will continue our unit on Waste in our World.

Social Studies: Students will continue learning about the geography of Alberta.

Religion: Students will continue an introduction to the Religion class. They will be studying, illustrating and reflecting on this year's faith theme of love. There will also be special prayers on Monday in honour of our late Queen.

Grade 3: Sep. 19- 22

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will continue their French reading program at home. Letters were be sent last Monday explaining in further detail.
In addition, students will continue to work on cursive writing and writing in their personal journals. They will also continue learning about alphabetizing, syllables and other word work.

Math: We will continue with number sense. Students are learning how to represent numbers in different ways: place value charts, base 10 blocks, deconstructed form, written form etc. They should be practicing saying their numbers in French up to 100 for now.

Science: We will continue discussing what a scientist is, discovering different types of scientists that exist, and learning about the scientific method.

Social Studies: Students will continue with mapping skills and the vocabulary that accompanies maps.

Religion: Students will continue an introduction to the Religion class. They will be studying, illustrating and reflecting on this year's faith theme of love. There will also be special prayers on Monday in honour of our late Queen.

Grade 4: Sep. 12- 16

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:


French: Students will begin their French reading program at home. Letters will be sent on Monday explaining in further detail. Reading programs are due on Mondays, unless there is a long weekend.
In addition, students are continuing to work on cursive writing, will begin writing in their personal journals, and learn about how to conjugate the verb AVOIR in the present tense. There will be an evaluation on Friday.

Math: We will continue with number sense. Students are learning how to represent numbers in different ways: place value charts, base 10 blocks, deconstructed form, written form etc. They should be practicing saying their numbers in French up to 100 for now.

English: Students will complete their assignment called the "I Can" hand. They should be finished and able to submit by Thursday. We will also start a novel study on Flying Solo.

Science: We will be starting our unit on Waste in our World.

Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about the geography of the globe, narrowing down to Canada and then Alberta. This year students will study Alberta in Social Studies.

Religion: Mme Suzanne will begin some introductory lessons this week. She will be teaching students Religion throughout the year.

Grade 3: Sep. 12- 16

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will begin their French reading program at home. Letters will be sent on Monday explaining in further detail.
In addition, students are continuing to work on cursive writing, will begin writing in their personal journals, and learn about alphabetizing words.

Math: We will continue with number sense. Students are learning how to represent numbers in different ways: place value charts, base 10 blocks, deconstructed form, written form etc. They should be practicing saying their numbers in French up to 100 for now.

English: Students will write a short piece explaining what kind of teacher they need in order to be successful this year. Then we will start a novel study on Flying Solo.

Science: We will be discussing what a scientist is, discovering different types of scientists that exist, and learning about the scientific method.

Social Studies: Students are getting an introduction to mapping skills and will learn the vocabulary that accompanies maps. They are also learning where on a map to locate the four communities that we will study this year: India, Peru, Ukraine and Tunisia.

Religion: Mme Suzanne will begin some introductory lessons this week. She will be teaching students Religion throughout the year.
