Grade 5: Nov. 2- 5

GRADE 5

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will be learning about the components of a sentence. A reminder that the French Reading Program is due on Tuesday.

Math: We will complete our unit on patterns. There will be an evaluation on Thursday.

English: Students will continue to learn about punctuation.

Social Studies: Students will continue chapter 2: the Atlantic region of Canada.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about the following theme: Gifts of our Faith: what are covenants? They will also discuss the Nicene Creed and service: message of gratitude for a veteran.

Grade 4: Nov. 2- 5

GRADE 4

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will continue working on a writing assignment where they describe what a school is. It is due on Friday. In addition, we will start to learn about verbs ending in ER in the present tense.
A reminder that the French Reading Program is due on TUESDAY. Students should be reading out loud for 20 minutes a day in Frenchfour times a week for a total of 80 minutes.

Math:  We will continue with our unit on addition. There will be an evaluation on Thursday on estimating sums.

English: Students will continue to learn about punctuation.

Science: The second evaluation on Waste in our World is on Wednesday. Students are also asked to bring a piece of cardboard (approximately 1 ft. x 1 ft.) for a Science/ Art project.

Social Studies: Students will review Alberta’s origins.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about the following theme: How our Faith makes us One. They will also discuss the seven sacraments and service: message of gratitude for a veteran.

Grade 5: Oct. 25- 28

GRADE 5

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will be learning the difference between verbs that are conjugated with AVOIR and verbs that are conjugated with ÊTRE in the passé composé. There will be an evaluation on Thursday. A reminder that book reports and the French Reading Program are both due on Thursday.

Math: We will continue with our unit on patterns.

English: Students will continue to learn about descriptive language. Then they will learn about punctuation.

Social Studies: Students will continue chapter 2: the Atlantic region of Canada.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about the following theme: Gifts of our Faith: what are covenants?

Grade 4: Oct. 25- 28

GRADE 4

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will be working on a writing assignment where they describe what a school is.
A reminder that the French Reading Program is due on MONDAY. Students should be reading out loud for 20 minutes a day in Frenchfour times a week for a total of 80 minutes. In addition, book reports are due on THURSDAY.

Math:  We will be learning about estimating sums, and addition.

English: The letter about Calgary is due on Monday. Then we will be learning about punctuation.

Science: We will complete part 2 of the Waste in our World unit.

Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about Alberta’s origins.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about the following theme: Called to be One: The Books of the Old Testament.

Grade 5: Oct. 19- 22

GRADE 5

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will be reviewing how to conjugate verbs ending in RE and other irregular verbs in the past tense (le passé composé). There will be an evaluation on Friday.

Math: We will continue with our unit on patterns.

English: Students will continue to learn about types of nouns. Then they will learn about past and present tense sentences and descriptive language.

Social Studies: Students will start chapter 2. They will be learning about the provinces in the Atlantic region of Canada.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about the following theme: Gifts of our Faith: what are covenants?


A REMINDER THAT PICTURE DAY IS ON TUESDAY OCTOBER 19TH. OUR CLASS IS SCHEDULED FOR PHOTOS AT 1:30 PM.

Grade 4: Oct. 19- 22

GRADE 4

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French:  Students will learn about adjectives. There will be an evaluation on Friday. Students will need to know the proper form of adjectives for the following formats: masculine singular, masculine plural, feminine singular and feminine plural.
A reminder that the French Reading Program is due on TUESDAY. Students should be reading out loud for 20 minutes a day in Frenchfour times a week for a total of 80 minutes.

Math:  We will continue with our unit on whole numbers. Students should know their numbers up to 9 999 in French. There will be an evaluation on Thursday. Students will be comparing numbers and organizing them into Venn diagrams.

English: Students will be working on an assignment where they write a letter and pretend to invite someone to come and visit Calgary. It is due on Monday.

Science: We will continue part two of our unit on Waste in Our World. Students will be learning about some of the WHMIS hazard symbols, as well as the role that landfills play to properly dispose of waste.

Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about Alberta’s origins.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about the following theme: Called to be One: The Books of the Old Testament.

Math: We will complete unit 2 on whole numbers. There will be a unit test on Wednesday. Then we will start our unit on patterns.

English: Students will continue to learn about parts of speech. Then they will learn about past and present tense sentences.

Social Studies: Students will be correcting the questions from chapter 1. There will be an evaluation on Thursday.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about the gifts of our Faith.

Grade 4: Oct. 12- 15

GRADE 4

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French:  Students will continue to learn about common nouns. There will be an evaluation on Friday.
A reminder that the French Reading Program is due on TUESDAY. Students should be reading out loud for 20 minutes a day in Frenchfour times a week for a total of 80 minutes.

Math:  We will continue with our unit on whole numbers. Students should know their numbers up to 9 999 in French. There will be an evaluation on Wednesday. Students will be representing numbers in different ways for the evaluation.

English: Students will continue to read short stories and complete activities as a follow-up to the stories.

Science: We will begin part two of our unit on Waste in Our World.

Social Studies: Students will learn about Alberta’s origins.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about how our Faith makes us one.

Grade 5: Oct. 4- 8

GRADE 5

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will be reviewing how to conjugate verbs ending in IR in the present tense (le présent) and past tense (le passé composé). There will be an evaluation on Friday. They will also be working on their book reports that are due at the end of the month.

Math: We will continue with unit 2 on whole numbers.

English: Students will finish writing their epilogue to Secret Signs. It is due on Wednesday. In addition, they will be learning about the parts of speech.

Social Studies: Students will finish chapter 1, an introduction to Canada.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about the gifts of our Faith. In addition, they will be learning about Thanksgiving and gratitude.

Grade 4: Oct. 4- 8

GRADE 4

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French:  Students will learn about common nouns. They will also receive book reports that are due at the end of the month.
A reminder that the French Reading Program is due on MONDAY. Students should be reading out loud for 20 minutes a day in Frenchfour times a week for a total of 80 minutes.

Math:  We will continue with our unit on whole numbers. Students should know their numbers up to 1000 in French.

English: Students will finish writing their epilogue to Secret Signs. It is due on Wednesday. In addition, we will read short stories together.

Science: We will finish learning about the importance that red worms play in composting kitchen waste. There will be an evaluation on Thursday. Students received a study guide on Friday.

Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about Alberta’s flag, coat of arms and provincial flower.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about how our Faith makes us one. In addition, they will be learning about Thanksgiving and gratitude.
