May 29- June 2



French: This week students will read and learn about comic strips.
 
**We have changed the format of the reading program. Now students must read in French and English for 50 minutes a week (100 minutes total) for their reading program. Reading logs from last week are due on Monday. **

Math:  Students will begin the geometry unit.

English: We will begin our novel study of "Belle of Batoche" by Jacqueline Guest.
 
Science: Students will present their complex machines project on Monday.

Social Studies: We will begin the green book which covers the history of Alberta. Students will be working on an individual project related to this topic.


Important Information:
Please ensure that your child brings a bathing suit and towel for Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

May 23- 26


French: This week students will learn the 'futur simple'. In addition, students will work on their literacy projects for the month of May.
**We have changed the format of the reading program. Now students must read in French and English for 50 minutes a week (100 minutes total) for their reading program. Reading logs from last week are due on Monday. **

Math:  Students will complete their unit on decimal numbers.

English: We will read various texts in our "Times to Share" book and focus on making and verifying predictions.
 
Science: Students will work on inventing and building a complex machine using different simple machines. If students wish to bring material from home to help build their machine, they may do so. This project is due on May 29th.


Important Information:
May 24th is our first day of our swimming unit. Please ensure that your child brings a bathing suit and towel for Wednesday and Friday.

May 15- 18

Here's the plan for next week:

French: This week students will learn the 'futur proche'. In addition, students will work on their literacy projects for the month of May.

**We have changed the format of the reading program. Now students must read in French and English for 50 minutes a week (100 minutes total) for their reading program. Reading logs from last week are due on Monday. **

Math:  Students will learn how to add and subtract decimal numbers.

English: We will read various texts in our "Times to Share" book and complete activities that accompany the stories.
 
Science: Students will work on inventing and building a complex machine using different simple machines. If students wish to bring material from home to help build their machine, they may do so. In addition, we have a workshop on Tuesday in the library with a group called Robogals. The workshop is entitled "Not So Simple Machines".


Important Information:
Wednesday, May 17th we are going on a field trip to the Glenbow Museum. Please ensure that your child has a bagged lunch.

May 8- 12

Here's the plan for next week:

French: This week students will learn the irregular verbs in the 'imparfait'. There will be no evaluation on this. In addition, students will complete their text about Alberta for our "gala oratoire" which is a celebration of French speaking. They must memorize the first half of their text (at least) and we will present in class on Thursday and Friday of this week.

Math:  Students will continue to learn about decimal numbers and their relation to fractions.

English: We will complete our unit on poetry. Students should have their poems done by Monday, May 8th.
 
Science: We will complete our unit on simple machines. Students should be reviewing their notes at home as there will be an evaluation on Friday, May 12th.
