Grade 4: Nov. 28- Dec. 2

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: A reminder that the French Reading Program is due on MONDAY. 
Students will study irregular verbs in the present tense. While there is no evaluation on these verbs, students will also be reviewing all verbs taught thus far: AVOIR, ÊTRE, ER, IR and ALLER. There will be an evaluation on these verbs next week.

Math: We will finish our unit on addition. There is an evaluation on Thursday. Then we will move on to practice subtraction.

English: We will finish learning about homophones, synonyms and antonyms. There is an evaluation on Tuesday. Students will also complete reading comprehension activities as well as learn about the elements of story-writing.

Science: Students will learn about the life cycle of a product.

Social Studies: There is an evaluation on Wednesday of the theories of creation. Study guides were sent home last week. After, we will study the physical geography of the Rocky Mountains.

Religion: Students will have an introduction to unit 2: A New BeginningStudents will also learn about Advent. In addition, they will give reflections on the precious nature of names ("I have called you by your name"- Isaiah 43:1).

Students have been using Bibles with great enthusiasm. They would be so surprised to receive one for Christmas (They are full-sized adult editions of the NEW REVISED STANDARD VERSION; CATHOLIC VERSION).

REMINDER: Book reports in English and French are due on Wednesday.

Grade 3: Nov. 28- Dec. 2

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students should be submitting log 3 of their French at-home reading program. They will continue learning about structure and organization in writing. Students will be completing an assignment where they have to write a descriptive paragraph in which they explain how to make or do something. This will be due on Friday.

Math: There is an evaluation on number patterns on Tuesday. Then we will move on to addition.

English: Presentations of the birthstone project will begin on Monday. Students will also complete reading comprehension activities.

Science: We will finish our unit on rocks and minerals. There will be an evaluation on Thursday. Study guides were sent home on Friday, and there is one posted to the Google Classroom.

Social Studies: Students will continue to study India.

Religion: Students will have an introduction to unit 2: The Road to Bethlehem. Students will also learn about Advent. In addition, they will give reflections on the precious nature of names ("I have called you by your name"- Isaiah 43:1).

Grade 4: Nov. 21- 25

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: A reminder that the French Reading Program is due on MONDAY. 
There is an evaluation on Monday on IR verbs in the present tense. Then students will learn how to conjugate the verb ALLER in the present tense. There will be an evaluation on Friday.

Math: We will continue our unit on addition. Students should be reviewing their addition facts.

English: We will finish learning about types of sentences. Then students will learn about homophones, synonyms and antonyms.

Science: We will finish part 2 of Waste in Our World. There will be an evaluation on Tuesday. Study guides were sent home last week.

Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about the different theories of the origins of Alberta. They will also receive a study guide for an upcoming evaluation.

Religion: Students will review unit 1 of Growing in Faith: Called to be One. Students will also continue to explore the Bible. They will learn about the birth of John the Baptist as it appears in the Gospel of St. Luke.

REMINDER: Thursday’s theme for Spirit Day is mismatched.

Grade 3: Nov. 21- 25

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students should now be on log 3 for their French at-home reading program. We will continue to learn about structure and organization in writing. They will also complete some comprehension activities. Soon, students will be given an assignment where they have to write a descriptive paragraph and apply the organizational tools learned in class.

Math: Students will continue to learn about number patterns. We are nearing the end of this unit. There will be a quiz shortly (date TBA).

English: We will finish learning about types of sentences. Then students will move on to begin a research project about their birthstone. This is also related to our science unit on rocks and minerals.

Science: We will continue with our unit on rocks and minerals.

Social Studies: Students will continue to study India.

Religion: Students will review unit 1 of Growing in Faith: Our Catholic Community. Students will also continue to explore the Bible. They will learn about the birth of John the Baptist as it appears in the Gospel of St. Luke.

REMINDER: Thursday’s theme for Spirit Day is mismatched clothes.

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

Students will continue to learn how to conjugate verbs ending in ER in the present tense. There will be an evaluation on Tuesday. Then we will move on to study verbs ending in IR in the present tense.

Math: We will continue our unit on addition and estimating sums. Students should be practicing their basic addition facts. There will be an evaluation on estimating sums on Thursday.

English: We will continue to learn about sentence structure: complete sentences, run-on sentences, and fragments. There will be a quiz on Wednesday. Then we will move on to learn about simple, compound, and complex sentences. Students will also be completing some reading comprehension activities.

Science: We will continue part 2 of Waste in Our World.

Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about the different theories of the origins of Alberta. Additionally, students will learn about Métis traditions for Métis Week.

Religion: Students will continue to study unit 1 of Growing in Faith: Called to be One. For Anti-Bullying Week, students will reflect on how we are all different, we should be ourselves, we should be accepting of one another, and it takes courage to stop bullying. Last, students will also explore the Bible.

REMINDER: Monday, November 14th is Odd Socks Day. Encourage your child to come to school wearing mismatched socks in support of bullying awareness. We will be having discussions and completing various activities around this topic throughout the week.

Grade 3: Nov. 14- 18

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students should now be on log 3 for their French at-home reading program. We will continue to learn about structure and organization in writing. They will also learn about sentence structure, which is an extension of their learning in English.

Math: Students will continue to learn about number patterns.

English: We will continue to learn about sentence structure: complete sentences, run-on sentences, and fragments. There will be a quiz on Wednesday. Then we will move on to learn about simple, compound, and complex sentences. Students will also be completing some reading comprehension activities.

Science: We will continue with our unit on rocks and minerals.

Social Studies: Students will continue to study India. Additionally, students will learn about Métis traditions for Métis Week.

Religion: Students will continue to study unit 1 of Growing in Faith: Our Catholic Community. For Anti-Bullying Week, students will reflect on how we are all different, we should be ourselves, we should be accepting of one another, and it takes courage to stop bullying. Math: We will continue our unit on addition and estimating sums. Students should be practicing their basic addition facts.

English: We will start to learn about sentence structure: run-on sentences, fragments, simple, compound, and complex sentences. Students will also be completing some reading comprehension activities.

Science: We will continue part 2 of Waste in Our World.

Social Studies: Students will learn about the different theories of the origins of Alberta.

Religion: Students will complete readings and reflections about the service and selflessness of Veterans and their families. 

There will also be discussions about peace: within ourselves, and with our families, friends, neighbours, fellow citizens and globally

 

Practice being a disciple by teaching a young child in our school the finger play: HERE IS THE CHURCH. Practice it and memorize it for Wednesday.

And they all walk away. 

Participate in the Remembrance Day Liturgy on Wednesday at 10:00. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. 

REMINDER: Parent-teacher conferences are on November 9th in the evening, and November 10th during the day.
