Grade 5: Feb. 1- 5

 GRADE 5

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will learn about the 6 traits of writing: ideas, organization, word choice, sentence fluency, voice and conventions.

Math: We will continue with our unit on measure.

English: Students will learn about prefixes and suffixes. There will be an evaluation on Friday.

Religion: Students will continue to write personal prayers that they will read during the morning announcements.

SPECIAL EVENT: On Friday, February 5th, students will participate in a virtual presentation of Folklofolie. They are asked to bring a pair of metal spoons with them to school that day in order to take part of the action.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: If students want to distribute Valentine’s cards to their classmates, they must bring them to school no later than Wednesday, February 10th so that they can be distributed by Tuesday, February 16th (after the long weekend). I must quarantine the cards for a minimum of 72 hours beforehand. In addition, students will NOT be allowed to give each other candy, according to AHS guidelines.

Grade 4: Feb. 1- 5

  GRADE 4

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will learn about the verbs AVOIR and ÊTRE in the ‘passé composé’. There will be an evaluation on Friday.
A reminder that students’ reading programs are due on Monday. We will be starting a new reading program where students are expected to read 50 minutes in English AND 50 minutes in French per week.

Math:  We will continue with our unit on division. There will be an evaluation on Wednesday.

English: We will learn about prefixes and suffixes. There will be a short quiz on Friday.

Science: Students will be working on a project related to lights and shadows.

Social Studies: We will continue with our project on the different geographic elements in all 5 of the other regions of Alberta.

Religion: Students will continue to write personal prayers that they will read during the morning announcements.

Grade 5: Jan. 25- 28

 GRADE 5

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will learn about ‘la bande dessinée’ (comics). There will be an evaluation on Thursday on the terminology. In addition, students will be creating their own comics and submitting them on Thursday. A reminder that students’ reading programs and book reports are due on Thursday.

Math: We will continue with our unit on measure.

English: We will finish the presentations of the dance project.

Religion: Students will be writing personal prayers that they will read during the morning announcements.

Grade 4: Jan. 25- 28

 GRADE 4

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will learn about ‘le déterminant’. In addition, they will work on reading comprehension.
A reminder that students’ reading programs are due on Monday. Book reports are due on Thursday.

Math:  There will be an evaluation on Monday on multiplication of numbers 2- 9. Then we will move on to division.

English: We will finish with our music presentations.

Science: There will be an evaluation on the lights and shadows unit on Wednesday. Students received a study guide last week.

Social Studies: Now that we have finished learning about the Rocky Mountains region, will start a project on the different geographic elements in all 5 of the other regions of Alberta.

Religion: Students will be writing personal prayers that they will read during the morning announcements.

Grade 5: Jan. 18- 22

 GRADE 5

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will learn about ‘la bande dessinée’ (comics).

Math: We will complete our unit on multiplication and division. There will be a unit test on Wednesday. This will include long multiplication and long division. Then we will move on to our unit on measure.

English: The dance research project is due on Monday. We will be doing presentations throughout the week.

Religion: Students will be writing personal prayers that they will read during the morning announcements.

Grade 4: Jan. 18- 22

GRADE 4

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will learn about the RE verbs in the ‘passé composé’. There will be an evaluation on Friday. This evaluation will cover ER, IR and RE verbs in the ‘passé composé’.
A reminder that students’ reading programs are due on Monday.

Math: We will continue our unit on multiplication. There will be an evaluation on Tuesday on the 4- 7 times tables.

English: The music research project is due on Monday. We will be doing presentations throughout the week.

Science: We will continue our unit on lights and shadows.

Social Studies: We have finished our unit on the geographic elements of the Rocky Mountains. There will be an evaluation on Thursday. A study guide has been posted on Google Classroom.

Religion: Students will be writing personal prayers that they will read during the morning announcements.

Grade 5: Jan. 11- 15

 GRADE 5

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: There will be an evaluation on Monday, January 11th on subject agreement for plural and feminine words. Then, students will learn about verb and adjective agreement. For this, in lieu of an evaluation, I will give students an assignment to submit where they write sentences demonstrating proper verb and adjective agreement. This will be due on Friday.

Math: We will continue our unit on long division. Students have several practice sheets to get the hang of the steps. There will be an evaluation on Friday.

English: Students will continue to work on their dance research project.

Religion: Message from Mme Lora:  Students will continue to learn about Epiphany. In addition, there will be an evaluation on Advent on Tuesday. There are study notes posted to the Google Classroom.

Grade 4: Jan. 11- 15

  GRADE 4

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: There will be an evaluation on Monday, January 11th on verbs ending in ER in the ‘passé composé’. Then, students will learn about the IR verbs in the ‘passé composé’. There will be an evaluation on Friday.

Math: We will continue our unit on multiplication. Students should be practicing their basic facts, working up to 9 X 9.

English: Students will continue their music research project.

Science: We will continue our unit on lights and shadows.

Social Studies: We will finish learning about the different geographic elements of the Rocky Mountains. Students will be receiving a study guide during the week as there will be an evaluation for the following week.

Religion: Message from Mme Lora:  Students will continue to learn about Epiphany. In addition, there will be an evaluation on Advent on Tuesday. There are study notes posted to the Google Classroom.

Grade 5: Jan. 4- 8

 GRADE 5

Welcome to our week of online learning! Parents received an email before the break regarding the schedule for our week of online learning. This schedule is also posted to Google Classroom. At the beginning of each subject lesson, students are to log on to the Google Meet link located on the homepage of the Google Classroom (at the top, in the teal section). After instructions are given, students can work on their own until the next subject’s lesson. I will be available throughout the day to answer any questions they may have.

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French: Students will learn about subject agreement for singular, plural, masculine and feminine words. There will be an evaluation next Monday, upon their return to class.

Math: We will continue our unit on long division. Students have several practice sheets to get the hang of the steps.

English: Students will begin a dance research project. They will have at least two weeks to work on this project, so it is not to be completed during the week of online learning.

Religion: Message from Mme Lora:  Students will be learning about Epiphany. They are to use the same Google Meet link as for the other subjects.

Math: We will start our unit on multiplication. Students should be practicing their basic facts, working up to 9 X 9.

English: Students will begin a music research project. They will have at least two weeks to work on this project, so it is not to be completed during the week of online learning.

Science: We will start our unit on lights and shadows. Students received a booklet to take home. Instructions will be given throughout the week.

Social Studies: We will continue to learn about the different geographic elements of the Rocky Mountains. In addition, students received a map of Alberta that they will color according to all the geographic regions of the province. They should wait for instructions before completing this assignment.

Religion: Message from Mme Lora:  Students will be learning about Epiphany. They are to use the same Google Meet link as for the other subjects.
