Grade 5: Sep. 27- Oct. 1

GRADE 5

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French
Students will be reviewing how to conjugate verbs ending in ER in the present tense (le présent) and past tense (le passé composé). There will be an evaluation on Friday. The reading program for September is also due on Friday.

Math: We will continue with unit 2 on whole numbers. There will be an evaluation on Tuesday.

English: Students will be writing an epilogue to Secret Signs. In addition, they will be completing reading comprehension activities.

Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about the geography of Canada. There will be an evaluation on Wednesday. Students will be required to name the provinces, territories and capital cities of Canada.

Religion: Students will be learning about what helps us grow in Faith.

*Please note that in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, there will be no school on Thursday.*

Grade 4: Sep. 27- Oct. 1

GRADE 4

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French:  Students will learn how to differentiate between AVOIR and ÊTRE in the present tense. There will be a pre-test (not for marks) on Monday, followed by an evaluation on Friday.
A reminder that the French Reading Program is due on MONDAY. Students should be reading out loud for 20 minutes a day in Frenchfour times a week for a total of 80 minutes.

Math:  We will complete our unit on patterns. There will be an evaluation on Tuesday. Then we will start our next unit on whole numbers. Students should know their numbers up to 100 in French.

English: Students will be writing an epilogue to Secret Signs. In addition, we will read short stories together.

Science: We will be learning about the importance that red worms play in composting kitchen waste.

Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about the geography of Alberta. There will be an evaluation on Wednesday. Students received a study guide on Friday.

Religion: Students will be learning about how our Faith makes us one.

Grade 5: Sep. 20- 22

GRADE 5

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French
Students will be reviewing how to conjugate the verbs AVOIR and ÊTRE in the present and past tenses. There will be an evaluation on Wednesday. They will also be doing some journal writing.

Math: We will continue with unit 2 on whole numbers. Students are learning how to represent 6-digit numbers in different ways.

English: Students will be reading short stories and responding to them in writing. I will also be reading from Secret Signs by Jacqueline Guest.

Social Studies: Students will learn about the landforms and climate of Canada.

Religion: Students will be writing prayers.

Grade 4: Sep. 20- 22

GRADE 4

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French:  Students will learn how to properly conjugate the verb ÊTRE in the present tense. There will be an evaluation on Wednesday. In addition, I will be presenting the French Reading Program to the students. They should be reading out loud for 20 minutes a day in French, four times a week for a total of 80 minutes.

Math:  We will continue with our unit on patterns. Students should be practicing their numbers up to 100 in French.

English: Students will be finishing the assignment called the “I Can” hand. It is due on Wednesday. I will also be reading from Secret Signs by Jacqueline Guest.

Science: We will continue to learn about the role decomposers play in turning waste into nutrient-rich soil.

Social Studies: Students will look at the geography of the Prairies, as well as taking a closer look at Alberta.

Religion: Students will be writing prayers.

Grade 5: Sep. 13- 17

GRADE 5

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French
Students will be continue with their superhero essay. It is due on Friday. In addition, they will review conjugating the verbs AVOIR and ÊTRE in the present and past tenses. We will spend the following week on these verbs as well. Last, we will be talking about the legacy of Terry Fox.

Math: We will start unit 2 on whole numbers. Students are learning about place value and representing numbers in different ways.

English: Students will be completing a letter about their hopes for this school year. It is due on Wednesday. I will also be reading from Secret Signs by Jacqueline Guest. Last, students will read short stories and respond to them in their exercise books.

Social Studies: Students will review the names of the provinces and territories in Canada, plus their capital cities. We will then start to look at the geographic regions of Canada.

Religion: Students will begin their Religion class with Mme Suzanne.

Grade 4: Sep. 13- 17

GRADE 4

Here is what we will be covering in class next week:

French:  Students will learn how to properly conjugate the verb AVOIR in the present tense. There will be an evaluation on Friday. In addition, we will be talking about the legacy of Terry Fox and continuing with personal journal writing.

Math:  We will start our unit on patterns. Students should be practicing their numbers up to 100 in French.

English: Students will be working on an assignment called the “I Can” hand. They write several statements about all the things they can do. I will also be reading from Secret Signs by Jacqueline Guest.

Science: We will be learning about the role decomposers play in turning waste into nutrient-rich soil.

Social Studies: Students will begin to learn about the geography of the World, then narrowing down to Canada and Alberta.

Religion: Students will begin their Religion class with Mme Suzanne.

 Dear Parents,


Welcome to grade 4/5!! I will be posting weekly updates with what learning your child will be doing throughout the week, important due dates for projects and tests, and any other pertinent information. This week will be for review and getting to know the students. 


A parent letter regarding more specific details of your child's grade, homework policy etc. will be emailed within the next week.
